Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the treatment experiences of depressed youths and the meaning of those experiences in the course of the famous paintings appreciation group art therapy program. To this end, 9 high school girls with moderate or higher depressive levels were selected as participants, and group art therapy program was conducted through prior research twice a week from June 17 to July 24, 2019. Analysis was carried out using Giorgi¡¯s phenomenological research methods. The components derived from interviews conducted during the program are ¡®recalling the pain', 'Losing direction and giving up', 'Hoping to throw away and fill', ¡¯Consoling me who struggled¡®, 'A new beginning', and 'Drawing my future'. The participants' psychological changes are as follows. First, they were aware of the injury experiences and understood that this caused depression. Second, they attempted to form relationships by acknowledging and revising the irrationality of self-awareness, and seeking emotional stability by finding happy memories in the past. Third, they deviated from the existing preconceptions and made plans for the future. This study is to deeply explore the depressive youth¡¯s experience of the famous painting appreciation program when the qualitative study of the program is insufficient.
